If you’re in charge of intranet content, we know it can be exhausting; especially if you don’t have a team of content creators to help you out.

Ok, sure, you can try using a few AI tools to help, but it AI rarely provides that human touch intranet content deserves.

And, as you know, keeping content fresh and engaging is necessary for healthy intranet engagement and adoption.

To help you ensure a steady content stream, here are 10 different reasons to post to your intranet, and related content ideas.

  1. When employees are feeling the winter blues

A travel site in Vancouver, Canada recently listed a spreadsheet of every direct flight from Vancouver to a city with a beach, sorted by the number of hours to fly there. How cool is that? Even if you can’t find the same within your local city, there are probably many sites devoted to travel. Consider even adding in an automated feed from a travel site, so that hot travel deals get populated automatically.

  1. When its cold and flu season

Even though you can’t avoid every virus, there are definitely ways to minimize the impact. Consider adding links to your intranet about the nearest location for a flu shot, recipes for chicken soup, or a list of binge worthy TV series for when you don’t have the energy to move.

  1. When business isn’t going so well

When times are tough, it can be hard to feel optimistic in the workplace. But, chances are that somewhere within your organization is some good news! Maybe it’s a happy customer’s testimonial. Maybe it’s a new promising lead from marketing. Or maybe, it’s the recent birth announcement from your colleague. Whatever the reason, share it!

  1. When business is evolving and changing

Keeping employees informed can be challenging when the business is moving fast, or going through a merger or acquisition. If this is your organization, make sure to publicize town hall meetings, CEO videos, and anything else that can help employees navigate any potential uncertainty. This will help employees feel included.

At ThoughtFarmer, a good majority of us work from home. And while this is a great perk, it can definitely feel a little lonely at times. This is when intranet posts advertising team building activities or upcoming events can really help unify us. Sometimes even a silly poll can evoke engagement and laughter.

  1. When you’re feeling philanthropic

Does your organization have a charity you are passionate about? When employees come together to donate to a charity, it brings everyone closer and creates a sense of shared purpose. It’s a great way to make a bigger impact as a team, while showing that the company cares about giving back. Plus, it lifts everyone’s spirits and helps build a more connected and motivated workplace.

  1. When it’s storm season

Using an intranet during a natural disaster is a great way to keep everyone in the loop, especially when power might go out or communication gets tricky. It gives employees a central place to get updates, share information, and stay connected when other methods might not work. See how a bank leveraged their intranet when a tornado impacted their ability to communicate.

  1. When you are unsure how employees are feeling about the company

Employees are happy right? You know this for a fact right? Even if you are sure how employees are feeling, it’s a good idea to periodically run a pulse survey. There is some great advice on what to include in pulse surveys in this blog: How to use your intranet to create a pulse survey.

  1. When it’s sale season

Everyone appreciates a great deal—especially during sales events like Black Friday, where prices on large items are often slashed substantially. Remember, intranets don’t have to exclusively focus on work. So consider sharing deals to help everyone save a little money.
