This is the first in a series of posts discussing the thinking behind the new capabilities in ThoughtFarmer 6.0, slated for release later this month.
I have a page on my intranet where I store every sales slidedeck I’ve used over the past 6 years. There’s about 40 of them, and they’re all huge — 10Mb or more.
I’ve named the files semi-intelligently, but that doesn’t help when I’m looking for a certain visual — say the slidedeck with the chart of usage growth at client MEC, or the slidedeck with a neat graphic of many-to-many publishing.
My only option is to make a guess and start downloading. And that takes a long time, especially over my slow home connection.
We’ve solved this problem with Document Preview, new in ThoughtFarmer 6.0. Before downloading, click the filename to see an in-browser preview of the file. Navigate from page to page, just like you do on slidedeck sharing sites like Slideshare. It works with Word, PDF, PowerPoint, and any graphic format.
Here’s a screenshot of Document Preview in action. It’s one of dozens of enhancements in ThoughtFarmer 6.0.
