How MTE used their intranet to celebrate 40 years of culture

How do you honor four decades of company history, unite employees across newly acquired firms, and celebrate a founder’s legacy all at once? For MTE, the answer was simple: turn the intranet into a party.

MTE 40th anniversary

Happy (almost) birthday, MTE!

As the engineering firm is set to mark its 40th anniversary this year, MTE brought the celebration to life through its intranet, Bruce—named in honor of their late founder. But this wasn’t just a commemorative banner and a message from leadership. It was an all-out, months long, decade-themed experience, complete with throwback content, gamified team challenges, and lots of retro flair.

Throwing it back, one month at a time

MTE’s internal celebration spans their 4o years, from the 1980s to the 2020s, spotlighting a different decade each month. Every page within “Bruce” transforms with custom artwork and visual themes like the pixelated blues and bubble fonts we loved so much in the 90s, creating a vivid experience that’s as fun as it is meaningful. I don’t know about you, but I have all of the Saved by the Bell feels right now.

Staff can earn points for their team by:

  • Completing themed surveys
  • Uploading photos from the past (bonus points for perms and power suits)
  • Sharing favorite projects and stories

Each month culminates in a leaderboard update, building excitement and driving friendly competition across teams.

A culture built on legacy and looking ahead

This campaign isn’t just about the past. It comes at a pivotal moment in MTE’s history. The company has recently acquired several other engineering firms, adding fresh faces and locations to its growing team. The anniversary celebration has helped integrate those new employees into MTE’s culture, building a bridge between the old and the new.

It all builds to a full-company party later this year, but Bruce is already the star of the celebration.

Why we love It

This is intranet engagement at its best: timely, authentic, fun, and deeply tied to culture. By turning Bruce into the heart of the 40th anniversary campaign, MTE is creating a space where employees get to reminisce, compete, connect, and celebrate. When they’re not working, of course.

If your company is approaching a major milestone, or looking for creative ways to boost internal engagement, take a page from Bruce. Kudos, MTE and Happy Anniversary!
