System Requirements
ThoughtFarmer runs on your server, behind the corporate firewall. This means your data is secure and the response time is very fast compared to going out over the web.
ThoughtFarmer does not require any special technology on the desktop–just a standard web browser.
Hardware requirements: Server
ThoughtFarmer’s hardware requirements are pretty light — we’ve done a lot of work to make sure it’s optimized and runs well on an average server within an organization.
If you’re buying a new machine, here’s what we’d recommend for a typical ThoughtFarmer installation for 500 users:
Processor: Dual core
Memory: 2 – 4 GB RAM
Hard Drive: Fast SATA or SCSI drives, 100GB+
Software requirements: Server
ThoughtFarmer runs on industry-standard Microsoft technology.
Operating System: Windows Server 2003 or 2008
Database: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 (SQL Server Express is acceptable for small installations)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable
Desktop requirements
ThoughtFarmer does not require any particular software or operating system–just a standard web browser.
There are a few advanced interface features in ThoughtFarmer that are optimized for:
- Internet Explorer 7 for Windows
- FireFox 3+ for Windows or Mac
- Safari 4 for Mac
Single sign-on requires Internet Explorer for Windows.
Optional but recommended
Active Directory. ThoughtFarmer synchronizes with Active Directory for hassle-free, hands-off user administration.
SMTP server. ThoughtFarmer requires access to an SMTP server to send email notifications.
POP3, IMAP or Exchange mail account. ThoughtFarmer requires access to a general POP3, IMAP or Microsoft Exchange email account to use the email-to-ThoughtFarmer feature.
