Global Container Terminals is Canada’s largest port operator. With locations in Metro Vancouver, the Port of New York and the Port of New Jersey, GCT needed a way to connect employees and share information. Their previous intranet was difficult to use and was rarely accessed by employees. The winner received a trip to one of the other locations. “It was great fun!” Janson said. It’s more than just a social tool, however. GCT’s executives threw their weight behind the intranet from the outset. The CEO started his own blog and regularly posted news, updates and information from his travels around the world. GCT created a custom “countdown clock” in ThoughtFarmer to help build excitement about the launch of their major facility expansion in New Jersey (the countdown began 900 days prior to opening!). Employees use ThoughtFarmer to find critical information, such as vessel schedules. And everyone can easily connect with their colleagues using the employee directory.
