What do MEC, Binnie, Mitacs, and Wesgroup all have in common? They’re all recognized as a top employer in BC for 2019. Organizations on this list were graded on criteria including employee communications, community involvement, and work and social atmosphere.
But, that’s not all these organizations have in common. These companies are also customers of ThoughtFarmer! And as ThoughtFarmer President, Darren Gibbons points out, it’s no coincidence that many top employers rely on an intranet to better their workplace.
“Intranets have long been associated with solving organizational challenges within the workplace. From enhancing productivity and workplace culture to increasing communication and collaboration to improving knowledge share,” said Darren. “Further fueling the trend for intranet software is an influx of remote workers combined with increasing flexible work schedules. This has created a hefty demand for collaboration technology that is accessible anywhere, at any time, from any device.”
Those who associate intranets with stale document repositories might be surprised at just how much intranet software has evolved in the last decade. Today’s intranet software keeps knowledge centralized and accessible and enables employees to ask questions, share comments, and contribute to resolving other employee problems.
Modern intranets also drive productivity, which ultimately drives profit. A study by McKinsey Global Institute revealed that connected employees can improve productivity by 20 to 25 percent which equates to a potential improvement in revenue of up to $1.3 million a year.
As the winners of the top BC employers have shown, taking an active approach by focusing on culture, people, and communication may be just what lands you on the list of BC’s top employers next year. This recognition also gives organizations an edge in attracting and retaining future talent—a challenge many of us struggle with.
